I help you work with your unique body, and take into consideration how everything in your life affects your health and wellness.
I work with the concept of bio-individuality. My approach is client-driven. Instead of getting a one-size-fits-all exercise plan based on a cookie-cutter approach, I create customized plans for my clients based on their individual circumstances, lifestyle habits, health condition and other needs.
My methodology is functional strength training where I work as many muscles as possible at the same time. I am a huge fan of compound movements that challenge both your large muscles and your intrinsic musculature. The Bosu, Swiss balls, foam rollers and many other “toys” I use in the studio help train your core and strengthen your tendons and connective tissue to keep you both safe, and strong. You must treat the body as a whole. This is why I thread Pilates exercises, and yoga throughout some of the more traditional strength training exercises. I want your workouts to be efficient.
I stress the importance of flexibility. It does not mean you have to lift your leg over your head, or do a split, but what I do mean is having the ability to touch your toes with ease, and have good range of motion in all of your joints. Both my 90 year old clients who live independently touch their toes!
I want you to have proper range of motion. (ROM) Our bodies are like a car, and if we don’t oil and lubricate and take care of our joints, they grow stiff, old and inflexible which leads to loss of range of motion and other side effects like not being able to turn your head to watch for traffic. When I train clients for the first time, I can often guess if their profession involves a lot of sitting or standing on hard surfaces (surgeons have a tough time on their spine and knees with those cold surgical concrete floors). I see over and over certain overuse patterns or restricted movement due to repeated patterns of movement they may have. If these patterns are not corrected, or proper stretching and strengthening practices put into place, it can result in injury or loss of range of movement.
With my personal training program, I work with my clients with sessions that last a minimum 60 minutes to acclimate you with your body. Every body is different (you are unique as your fingerprint!) with various strengths and weaknesses and I am the detective on a quest to help your body be the best it can be. I am there to work with you every step of the way. This is a judgment-free zone, and it is never too late to start! I work with clients as young as 17 years old and one of my regular clients who trains with me twice a week just celebrated her 92nd birthday! The exercises I design for you are based on your current lifestyle choices, strengths and long-term goals. I work on changing habits, resulting in meaningful and positive behavioral changes that will deliver long-term health benefits.
As your personal trainer, I will educate you on the importance of looking at your nutrition in terms of “whole foods.” The simple truth is you cannot achieve an ideal body if you don’t put quality, nutrient dense foods into your system. 80 percent of your results in the gym come from your diet. Your body is a 45 million dollar investment. That is the value of your body if you put a price tag on it and had to replace organs etc. You don’t want to put junk in your tank. Junk I classify as soda, and any processed food. Also, heavy fatty meats create an acidic environment in your body as well, which is not good for many reasons I will get into later. I will help guide you to the right choices so your system will run clean. Medicinal compounds known phytonutrients and antioxidants found in raw fruits and vegetables provide us with a myriad of benefits from lowering the incidence of cancer and degenerative conditions to increasing immune function and protecting DNA.
To create long-term lifestyle changes, I work with my clients to get to the underlying causes of their health concerns. We look at how issues such as stress, emotional distress, physical activities, and lack of “soul nourishment” which can derail their fitness goals and affect our overall wellbeing. I also provide breathing techniques and meditation recommendations when necessary and every session is finished with a foam roller myofascial release massage to relax and release the tension in your body after your workout.
Stress reduction is huge benefit of these sessions, and as a former serious binge eater who suffered over 13 years, I am very compassionate when it comes to setbacks. I truly understand the tough relationship between emotions and food. I help my clients cultivate the awareness to improve all areas of their lives and to discover what roadblocks are in their way to optimum health.
I am always here to listen to my clients’ needs and concerns. Losing weight and staying healthy is not an easy path, and I am here to help teach my clients to be patient and kind to themselves as they learn the necessary behavioral changes to make them stick. I design a workout plan that works with your lifestyle and your life. No sense telling someone to run five miles a day if they don’t enjoy running. The secret is finding your own personal joy of movement. What you learn in your sessions is like getting the keys to a brand new car! You are in the driver’s seat on a whole new journey! I promise you will leave my studio feeling empowered, inspired and energized.
